Virgin Down Under

While Virgin America just introduced sexy new uniforms (check out the nipple buttons), ironically, their counterparts at Virgin Australia are being instructed to appear less sexy, according to The Sunday Telegraph of Sydney. The company is hoping to create a more sophisticated image with classes in grooming, etiquette, body language, and speech.

From now on, flight attendants won’t be permitted to call passengers “mate,” the only exception being frequent flyers who have specifically agreed, in writing, to allow this informal address. Banning the use of mate is one thing, but the written consent thing seems extraordinarily formal for a brand that was built on being irreverent.
